I almost don’t want to write anything in an effort to protect the magic of this place. But if you’re reading this then it probably is a sign you’re meant to experience the magic that goes on under the palapa. Jonathan & Mariana are always bringing the level up in terms of quality, both of the practice and as teachers. Every time I spend time here I come away with lifelong concepts and tools, but even more importantly lifelong connections.

I decided to join them for a three month program and I had a great time living in their Casa Colibri and practicing with the community. Highly recommended to everybody who loves to move, learn, play and grow. I will definitely come back!

Mariana & Jonathan are creating an amazing space where you can follow your passion around movement. Two dedicated movers who have a lot to share in the most beautiful way!
2 years ago I discovered Ido Portal after being into calisthenics for a while. I was so fascinated by it that I started practicing by myself for about 9 months.
I always wanted a teacher, but I couldn't find any where I was until I came to Mexico. I stumbled upon Movement Mexico on Instagram and knew it was exactly what I was looking for, so I immediately sent Jonathan a message and a month later I started my first trimester.
I couldn't have been more excited. Every class we learned something new, digging deeper and deeper into subjects, more and more details, things you thought weren't possible to be broken down, they somehow manage to do so, ... Once I saw everything come together and I started making progress, I was hooked even more.
I immediately felt like I was gonna stay longer than just 3 months and I did, I just finished my second trimester. I've been reflecting on everything I've learned; from locomotion, to strength training, spine work, acrobatics, ground communication, floor work, handstands, rail balancing, mobility, coordination, ... Even things like moving your arms, is a whole world on it's own. But that's just the surface of what we do, there's a whole philosophy behind it and you learn about yourself, others and life in general.
Honestly it's the most fascinating, interesting and complete practice I've ever participated in. The community is what makes it all complete; we support each other, learn from each other, practice together, but also alone and just plain up have fun together.
With that being said, I'm gonna miss this place, the classes and the people a whole lot, it's so hard to leave. Thank you Jonathan and Mariana for everything, I couldn't have wished for anything else.

I met Jonathan in Bulgaria in 2018 and we stayed in touch where he kept guiding me on the practice briefly.
After an impulsive conversation with him I traveled to Puerto Escondido, Mexico, in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 and it was one of the best decisions of my life.
I spent almost an entire year under the guidance and mentorship of Mariana & Jonathan absorbing, understanding and growing in the practice.
They both have different styles of teaching which makes it a complete experience and a very holistic as a student.
They’ve built an amazing community which feels like family now and as a whole there’s nothing more I could have asked for.
Also to add to it Puerto Escondido was a beautiful paradise to live in and everything is easily accessible and a life you could’ve never imagined.
Thank you team Movement Mexico for the amazing one year and helping me grow and evolve in the practice.

I joined Jonathan and Mariana’s Movement classes in Puerto Escondido, for a 3 month program.
I have been following various bodyweight / calisthenics programs online for quite a while before
and had stumbled across Ido Portal’s videos. I thought I know what to expect from the program, but wow, the reality surpassed all my expectations in the best possible ways.
The training blends a perfect mix of spinal movement, flexibility, strength and movement throughout
the weekly program. There are regressions for all levels of skills and strength and both Mariana and Jonathan are amazing teachers that can help even highly untalented folks such as myself and elevate their skills.
Some highlights from my three months: flow work and all the joys that come from rolling and moving both upright and close to the ground and spinal waves and circles that will provide me with a life long self-healing exercise for spine and neck. Thank you Jonathan and Mariana, I’m counting the days until I come back :)

When asked about the takeaways from my three months of daily movement classes and open-gym sessions together with my teachers, my fellow students and by myself, I’m almost at loss of words: Where to begin? What to highlight?
Is it the combination of wonderful humor, seriousness and insights that has been greeting us every day?
Is it the educational and challenging modules for strengthening, mobility and corporal control?
Is it the trust in our ability to “move”, regardless of our individual capabilities that we have been given everyday?
Is it the inspirational grace, knowledge and embodiment of our teachers? Or is the invaluable meeting in-between all of us with all of our difference and similarities that will enrich my own life for a long time to come?
All I know is that there hasn’t been a single day that I haven’t enjoyed immensely, where I haven’t learned something about myself, about others and the relationship in between us, in movement and stillness. How many “spaces” in your life gives you this kind of opportunity for growth?
By virtue of highlighting one thing I know I leave out so much more, all I can tell you, is that you have to experience it by yourself. Go, go, go!

diversity
collaboration
The biggest attribute we expect of ourselves and fellow teachers is to offer a multi-level class that will challenge the most advanced and yet be accessible and beneficial for the newest students.
We do not categorize students by levels;
instead we give everybody the opportunity
to adopt the mindset of a beginner, to want
to adapt and to learn, allowing the most space for learning and development.
